Warming Reishi Golden Milk For Dogs

It's only October, but winter has made an early appearance in Minnesota. We have had multiple snowfalls and temps are already in the single digits. As I think about how to best support my dogs this season, especially my two seniors, I take a serious look at their nutrition.
Turmeric is well known for it's warming and anti-inflammatory properties, and the addition of reishi mushroom powder provides targeted immune system support. I also add gelatin to soothe joints and the digestive tract. This potent elixir was created with my older dogs in mind, but it could truly benefit any pup!*
I especially love this recipe for it's versatility! You can serve slightly warm as prepared, or as a food topper. I also made an extra batch and froze it in molds to use as a meal supplement!

Ingredients

  • 1/2  teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon gelatin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon reishi mushroom powder
  • pinch ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ghee or coconut oil
  • 1 cup goat milk, unsweetened oat milk or bone broth

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and whisk over low heat just until warm and frothy. Be sure to test the temperature before serving to your dog!

This recipe serves 1 medium-large pup. You could divide it into two portions for a smaller dog.

Turmeric will stain absolutely everything it touches (kitchen counters, towels and light-colored fur) so just a word of caution as you think about where you will feed this!

*Be sure to consult your vet or nutritionist prior to feeding, as turmeric is not always appropriate for pets with certain health conditions, including reflux, bladder stones or others.*
